Incorrect Monitors display settings, issue

I’ve installed the new monitor to replace my several-year-old 10-year-old monitor. Since then, everything seems stretched out sideways: the icons on desktop displayed in rectangular instead of square, all the letters seem wider, the people on the screen look shorter and fatter, etc.

My friend thinks that I need to replace my video card! Is he true? Or do I need to do any modification to the changed monitor? If “Yes”, then tell me what I need to do?

Such problem mostly occurs when you install a new monitor. The reason behind it is that if the automatic detection installs an incorrect driver for hardware then it will show incorrect display settings.

Try to reinstall the monitor by using the below troubleshoot steps:

  • Start the system in safe mode, while your system reboot press F8 continuously. Once you see the Windows Startup Menu, select Safe Mode
  • Click on Start>> Right click on My Computer>> Properties>> Hardware tab>> Device Manager button
  • Click the plus (+) sign next to the Monitors entry to expand it
  • Now right click on the installed monitor(s) and choose Uninstall
  • Exit the Device Manager
  • Now restart your system, now windows will reinstall your hardware automatically

It is possible that your Windows will detect and install the right drivers this time.
Or you can visit the manufacturer’s official website and manually install the correct driver for your hardware and operating system.
