In Windows 10 the option disabling automatic updates is by default. But this can be disabled and prevent your Windows 10 computer from downloading automatic updates. However, there is a simple option in Wi-Fi settings which if enabled stop the Windows 10 computer from downloading automatic updates.

Follow the steps to do so:

  • Go to Start menu or Cortana > Search for Change Wi-Fi settings
  • And click Advanced Options > enable the toggle below Set as metered connection.
  • After this Microsoft will stop throwing updates to Windows 10 computer.

But if you are having a broadband connection and uses an Ethernet cable to connect to the Internet, then this trick won’t work for you.

Or else try using Group Policy Editor to disable automatic updates, follow the steps to do so:

  • Go to Start menu or Cortana > search gpedit.msc > hit Enter
  • Then click on Computer Configuration > choose Administrative Templates
  • Now select All Settings > scroll down the list to find the entry that says Configure Automatic Updates and double click on it
  • Choose Enabled radio button from the left upper side.
  • And after doing this, you are able to edit the Options pane > click the drop bar > choose the fifth option says Allow local admin to choose a setting.
  • Here the option to disable automatic downloads is available again > go and select
  • Go to Control Panel > System and Security.
  • Here click on Windows Update > Change settings on the following page. Here you can check the option that says Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them. Choose it > your computer will check for updates, but never download or install them without your permission

That’s it!!!
